What the Light Was Looking For
Enchanted Spaces
Mixed Media (oil and oil pastel on canvas), 2024
40.5 x 50.5 cm
Two boys drift across dark water in a small wooden boat, one seated while the other lifts a lamp toward the tall grass at the water’s edge. The gesture draws light toward something unseen, held just beyond reach.
Built on a ground of black gesso, vibrant oil pastel establishes the atmosphere of dusk, allowing colour to emerge against darkness. A final layer of oil paint introduces a gentle push and pull between warm and cool tones, creating movement across sky and water. Reflection echoes above and below, so the scene feels suspended between surface and depth.
The light does not resolve what is being sought. It remains with the act of looking itself, holding the moment without conclusion.
